IOL Master
The Zeiss IOL Master is a high-precision, non-contact optical instrument, which provides the most accurate eye measurements possible to ensure successful refractive results after cataract surgery.
Every eye is unique. Therefore, it can be difficult to determine the style and strength of the intraocular lens to implant during surgery. The IOL master uses partial coherence interferometry to quickly and accurately measure the eye and to provide the physician with information such as: the length of the eye, the curvature of the corneal surface and anterior chamber depth. These measurements make it possible to choose the most appropriate lens for each patient.
The Zeiss IOL master has proven to be five times more accurate than traditional technologies such as ultrasound. Although, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover IOL master examinations, we have purchased the technology for our patients and offer it to those who wish to have the test done. The cost is $100.00 per eye payable at the time of the examination. Some private insurance coverage will reimburse for the cost of the test.
If you have other questions concerning the Zeiss IOL Master you may contact the office at 416-445-1206.
